Which Diet Is Better To Get A New Body?
OK so I've got to go on a diet or get a bigger mirror. Besides not wanting have a mirror that won't fit my dresser, I don't want advertising agencies trying to rent my body for ad space. In short, I don't want to look fat, lazy, and like a person with no self-control. I want my love handles, thunder-thighs, and flabby belly gone. I am ashamed to admit it but lower down on the scale is also my desire to not have a stroke, diabetes, high blood pressure, or a coronary. It is time to trade in this old body for a new one and since there are no dealers in my area—if I get that coronary I might be connected to a dealer—I'll just have to go on a good diet. But which diet is better?
Which Diet Is The Best Priced?
For me the question is, which diet is the better to follow, to allow me to cheat once in awhile, that follows safe health rules, that does not cost me an arm and a leg—don't want to lose the weight that way—and it should help me lose weight quickly. Since I have done the research on which diet is the best, I thought I might share my results. I lost 42 pounds and it wasn't that hard. In fact, the benefits I have received far out weigh—no pun intended—any inconvenience my dieting might have caused me. It was actually fun watching the scales drop and a decent looking body emerge from the depths of fat.
I looked a which diet is better starting with popular diets like Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers and then I looked at on-line and ebook diets. I think the best way to share the answer to the question which diet is the better is with a chart.
Which diet is the better for me?
If you have a lot of money to spend you could use Jenny Craig or Weight Watchers. Of the two Weight Watchers is the best because they allow you room to chose your own foods, but if you use their foods the diet is expensive. These diets have a proven track record, but in my opinion they are not the best ones out their.
The hCG diet has only two things going for it, cost and quickness. You can read about my experience with it in my hub The Skinny On The hCG diet.
The Strip That Fat diet is very friendly and even fun to use. I got to use my own foods and I could add variety to my diet. This one of the better diets as far as I am concerned.
The Every Other Day Diet is also one of the better diets. This diet is a lifestyle diet rather then just a weight loss diet. You can "Cheat Your Way Thin" with this diet. I loved the fact that I could still eat in restaurants and have hamburgers and fries. It also features the new SNAPP system that replaces calorie counting. Again this is one of my favorites.
Turbulence Training is a kick butt weight training calorie burning exercise plan. It isn't exactly a boot camp, but you do have to commit 45 min, 3 days a week to it. This one is a must if you want a well defined, beautiful body.
No matter which one you chose or if you find one of your own, I can tell you that finding out which diet is better and following it will make your life 100% better

How I lost 1000 pounds in 50 years
My history of good and bad diets
Let me start by saying that I am not a doctor, a nutritionist, or am in any way telling anyone to try any of the diets I have tried. This is merely my story. I have been dieting since I was the age of 10. And all of my diets were more or less successful. Some more, some less. My first diet was my mother slapping my hand when I reached for another piece of chicken fried steak. By the early 60's everyone was taking diet pills and my family was no exception. I remember going to the doctor and getting a prescription for these black capsules that completely stopped my appetite and made me talk incredibly fast. At the tender age of twelve I already weighed 130 pounds and with the pills I lost down to 111. The fact that I never got a full night's sleep the whole time time I was in 7th grade, was beside the point. I was thin. Twiggy made her appearance in the early 60's and we all wanted to look like her. My desperate search for "twigginess" truly started me down the road of yo yo dieting. It never occurred to me that my skeleton wouldn't be as thin as Twiggy's entire body. But try I did. The Quick Weight Loss diet came into fashion. And the title said it all. If you wanted to lose weight quick. - go on that diet. I have to say that through the years that particular diet.. which is basically all protein has been my best friend. The Quick Weight Loss diet ultimately became known as the Atkins diet. But more about that later. One of the problems with the all protein diet is that although you can lose weight rapidly, the moment you go off it, you will gain all the weight back plus some just as rapidly. The protein diet and versions of it helped me to lose 50+ pounds over and over again. At least 10 times.
There was also the fasting diet. You don't eat anything for two days to "shrink" your stomach and then eat "normally." Sadly, normally for me was trying to make up for the two days of starving. Still, a fast 7 - 10 pounds. Over and over again. By the 70's the Cambridge diet came into fashion. This was basically a 300 calorie a day drink fast. I crashed off at least 20 pounds with it. But that diet ended when I, without thinking, drank a bloody mary at a party after I had been eating only 300 calories a day for three weeks. Let's just say my friend's fireplace, white carpeting, and every available piece of pottery, contained the evidence of THAT mistake.
Finally in the 80's I decided to do something sensible - Weight Watchers. Which is a truly sensible diet. One I have been on many times. I should be a Lifetime member since I have lost so much weight with Weight Watchers. 50, 20, 10, 70, 50, 60 pounds at various times. The only problem with Weight Watchers is that once I stopped.. on the pounds came again.
The 90's was Phen-Fen. I was sure that was the magic bullet. And it was Phen-Fen that actually alerted me to the fact that my eating had a brain chemistry component to it. But the FDA ended that craze when people came down with heart murmurs. I think I lost about 70 pounds with it. But once I was off the drug. It came back.. the dreaded fat. By now I was well over 250 pounds.
Sometime in the mid 90's I gave up. Hey - I had been fat that long. Whatever. So I just went about my business. Dressed as well as I could. Embraced my fat, if you will. And perhaps that is where I would have stayed until by my 50's my health began to suffer. Serious back problems, blood pressure powering up, cholesterol looking ugly. Knee problems. And of course there were other problems. Like sitting in an airplane seat, or a restaurant booth.Or just getting through a turnstile. My weight soared to over 300. The not dieting diet also didn't work.
And then my granddaughter was born. Suddenly I wanted to live - a lot longer. What to do? I had been researching weight loss surgery forever, but was fearful of it. But once I discovered that it was covered by my insurance, I took the plunge and had lap band surgery. I lost 60 pounds. I started working out at Curves. 60 more pounds. Four years later I have maintained a weight loss of 120 pounds. It wasn't easy. I do still watch what I eat, which is sort of an Atkins-ish food plan. But the surgery not only made it possible, it keeps me in check. Maybe not the answer for everyone. But for me it worked. Finally.
I could still lose about 30 more pounds. But it is a new decade and they are doing a lot with gene therapy... stay tuned!

Quick Weight Loss Programs
There are a lot of weight loss programs out there promising quick weight loss for anyone willing to try them. Some of them require that you buy their food, while others require that you attend meetings. Almost all of them have some kind of weight loss plan involving watching what you eat and getting some regular exercise. And pretty much all of them have a fee, otherwise how would they make money off of the poor, desperate overweight person who has tried to lose weight on their own and failed. Everyone who tries these programs hopes that the next weight loss plan they try will be the one that works. If only they knew that the simplest ways to lose weight are always the most effective.
Weight Watchers
Weight Watchers is considered one of the most successful long-term weight loss programs around. When a person joins Weight Watchers they are asked to select a goal weight. The bulk of the program is made up of tracking the amount of points you eat throughout the day. Each person has a certain amount of points they can use up for food in a day depending upon their weight, age, and a couple of other factors. Foods are assigned different point values based on their calorie, fat and fiber content. No foods are taboo on the Weight Watchers plan. The idea is that once you have used up your alloted points for the day, you are done eating. In actuality, members can earn extra points for exercise each day, and also have some bonus points that they can use any time throughout the week.
There are weekly meetings for support. The meetings also play another important role - at these meetings is where each member weighs in on a weekly basis to see how they've done since they weighed in last. Not only are the meetings designed to give support and a community feel, but the weigh ins are there to help keep people accountable for their food choices throughout the week. As a member you are required to attend at least one meeting per week. If you miss a meeting you are still required to pay for it the next time to attend.
The cost is roughly $12-15 per week, although you can get discounts by purchasing a bulk of time up front. One of the attractions to this particular plan is that once a member reaches his or her goal weight, they can continue be a part of the program and attend the meetings for free, as long as they weigh in once a month and have not gained more than 2 pounds more than their goal weight.
The experts agree that Weight Watchers is a pretty good weight loss program. The focus is on balanced eating and making good food choices, and the plan encourages exercise and portion control. However, there are lots of people who have tried this plan and agree that the meetings can sometimes be a bit of a joke. Instead of giving real support for people struggling, it tends to become a whine fest and be a little too enabling. The meetings usually focus on talking about food, which for some people is not the kind of support they need. Let's face it, a lot of overweight people have emotional connections to food, and talking about food all of the time is not the most empowering thing they could be doing for long-term weight loss. Still, most agree Weight Watcher is a solid program for people who benefit from an organized eating plan.
Jenny Craig
Jenny Craig is a program that is more popular in the U.S., although there are some centers in a few other countries. The program revolves around the Jenny Craig weight loss centers and the prepackaged that is the cornerstone of the program. Members purchase most of their food from a Jenny Craig center. Each meal (Jenny Craig makes breakfasts, lunches, dinners and desserts) is designed to be the proper portion and well balanced for carbohydrates, protein and fat. Members are asked to eat 3-4 Jenny Craig meals per day and supplement their diet with fruits, veggies and low fat dairy products. Like Weight Watchers, no food is taboo. The focus is on proper food portions and balanced eating.
Each member is assigned an individual counsellor when they join. Although these counsellors are not recognized nutrition experts, they are trained by the company to help. Every member works with their counsellor to work out meal plans based on their individual goals. The idea of the program is to have each person move through the food portion to a point where they no longer rely on Jenny Craig's own food.
Obviously any time a member needs support they are welcome to walk into a Jenny Craig center and speak to someone. As an added feature, Jenny Craig has a 24/7 hotline that a member can call for support or more information. Although there are no required meetings to attend, their is plenty of support available through the centers and the 24 hour hotline.
The cost of the program is not simply the cost of the food, which usually ranges from $12-15 per day. There is also a monthly free that ranges anywhere from $20-50 depending upon the amount of weight you wish to lose and what phase of the program you are in (weight loss or maintenance).
Reviews for Jenny Craig are mixed. Some people like the prepackaged foods, feeling that it helps take the thinking out of the process. Others dislike it for exactly the same reason, believing that they are not really learning how to eat in the real world once they stop eating Jenny Craig's own food. Although the idea is to get a member to the point where they no longer rely on the prepackaged food, we all know that this is a large portion of the company's profit. The experts praise Jenny Craig as a good jumping off point for those wanting quick weight loss, but warn that it will not be something that will benefit people long-term. It is important during any weight loss program for you to learn the strategies of healthy eating and exercise in the real world, so that no matter when or where you are, you can be confident in your own abilities to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Herbal Magic
Herbal Magic is a weight loss program only available in Canada. It's plan is based around members taking various weight loss supplements. Unfortunately there is nowhere to obtain a free trial of any of these supplements, and their is no cost structure on the official Herbal Magic website. For most people this fact should raise some red flags almost immediately. This usually means that the products are expensive for the average person.
There are over 70 different supplements offered on the website. They range from a cellulite reduction treatment to a one that improves muscle mass and helps maintain blood sugar. Herbal Magic does seem to support a healthy lifestyle involving a well balanced diet and exercise routine, but obviosuly they make their money through the sale of their supplements. They offer programs for men, women, children, and diabetics. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a 100% money back guarantee anywhere on their website which is suspicious.
Reviews I have read on this weight loss program are mostly negative. Although some people say they did lose weight on the program, most of them credit their success to the healthy eating habits they adopted along with starting some kind of exercise routine. Not many felt that the expensive weight loss pills did anything. Any nutrition experts I've seen comment on this program have said that in their opinion the supplements are simply a money grab and don't do anything to promote weight loss.
Slim-Fast
Slim-Fast is a weight loss program designed around a line of meal replacement shakes, powders, and snack bars. The idea of the Slim-Fast diet has always been to have their products for breakfast and for lunch, and then have a sensible dinner of real food. On their website they outline a plan that includes portion control, sensible eating and getting regular exercise. No food is forbidden on the Slim-Fast diet.
The cost of the program is simply the cost of the products. The nice thing is that they can be purchased at a lot of regular retail outlets, including Wal-Mart and most grocery store chains.
The whole basis of the Slim-Fast weight loss program is one of portion control. Control the size of the portions you eat and you control the calories. Their webiste offers support in the way of activity logs and support groups. Although it is a very structured plan, it is simple and will appeal to someone who prefers to do things mostly on their own or online.
The only real drawback to the plan, say the experts, can be the taste of the products. If you don't like the taste of what you're eating, you won't stick to it. But the concept of portion control does work, even long-term. That's what really what any diet is usually based around - limiting the amount you can eat.
Nutri-System
The Nutri-System weight loss program is another plan like Jenny Craig where it is based around eating their own food. The nice thing is, there is no counting calories, portion sizes, weighing food, none of that. You simply make your meal choices from the Nutri-System products, that's it. Nutri-System makes over 120 microwaveable meals that are balanced, low in sodium and portion controlled.
Meals are usually ordered from Nutri-System's website and range in cost from $275-325 per month. Each member also receives a 12-week guide to help them learn things like curbing cravings and the importance of support on your weight loss journey. Online support includes diet and fitness guidance, a weight loss community, and even counsellors that are available by telephone.
Nutri-System also promotes healthy balanced eating and getting regular exercise. On a Nutri-System diet, sugar, alcohol, candy and most processed foods are prohibited. Members are asked to supplement their daily meals with servings of fruit, vegetables and dairy products.
Nutri-System offers plans that can fit into anyones lifestyle, including type II diabetics. According to the company, most people are on their diet for 10-12 weeks.
The experts agree that this program is a great jumpstart to quick weight loss, but question whether the average person will be able to continue after they no longer eat prepackaged foods where the thinking is done for them. Hopefully while eating the Nutri-System food, people learn about portion control and balanced eating and are able to make the transition into the real world.
Counting Calories
All weight loss is about calories. It's simply a matter of burning more calories than you eat on a regular basis. Most of the above programs have some form of calorie counting built into their plan. The trick is that you have to actually do it. No quick weight loss will occur if you don't stick to a plan and use the strategies consistently. If you want to save your money, and in some cases lots of time, simply get a log book and start tracking the calories you eat every day. Their are websites where you can go to learn about how many calories a person burns depending on how active they are. Compare these two numbers. As long as you burn more calories than you eat, you will lose weight quickly and safely.

Which Weight Lost Program is Right for You?
Many Americans have to deal with controlling their weight, and a weight lost program may be the best way for many. So a great question would be what the best way to lose weight, or what is the best weight lost program for me. I myself was at a whopping 324 lbs. in January of this year. I tried to get my weight under control by watching my intake of calories, and what I eat. I was able to get down to 311 by the middle of February. I went to the doctor for a check-up and had to be put on more medication. The doctor was very clear that I had to do something, or I could die. So I decided to join weight watchers.
I was able, before I joined Weight Watchers to lose weight, but I always got stuck, or just put it back on. I have learned the reason I always put the weight back on was I never stuck with the weight lost diet, or weight lost program I was following. Another problem I have learned is you must use a form of weight lost exercise to lose weight. It is not going to fall off. I have also discovered that foods I thought were healthy were not always the best food to eat. Let's say you need to lose weight and you think I will eat a lot of yogurt, it is good for me. Well yes yogurt is good for you and I eat it myself. But all food contains calories and if you eat to much of any food you will gain weight even if it is healthy.
Should a person join a weight lost program that is a good question? As I stated before I joined Weight Watchers. I am not good at counting calories. With the Weight Watcher program, you follow a point system based on your food's calories, total fat grams, and dietary fiber. It has worked for me quite well and like most programs out there it may not be for you. The reason I did not join many of the other weight lost programs out there is a matter of money. With Weight Watchers I eat whatever I wish as long as I have points. So I do not have to spend large amounts of money to follow the program. Other weight lost programs require you to spend $300.00 to $400.00, or more per month. I personally cannot afford that. So if you feel you need to join a weight lost program that is great. What weight lost program you join would have to be based on what you can afford. If you join a program you cannot afford, you will find yourself quitting before you reach your weight goal.
I believe that perhaps the most important fact on how to lose weight is to find a weight lost diet or weight lost program you can afford. And a weight lost diet or program that is not extreme and forces you to deny yourself various kinds of food because if you deny yourself foods such as chocolate, cookies, or other goodies you will find yourself gorging on them. Which we all know will lead to weight gain instead of weight lost.
In closing I suggest you do whatever you feel is right to lose weight. I personally have lost 60 lbs since February. And I think if you cannot lose the weight you have gained on your own you should join a weight lost program.

Stop counting calories and start losing weight
Calorie counting is not the best way to lose weight effectively
Traditional advice tells us to reduce calorie intake to lose weight. New diets and research on nutrition are showing that calorie counting is not the best way to lose weight effectively and permanently.

Traditional diets have emphasized the fact that to lose weight we need to reduce our calorie intake. There have only been a very small percentage of diets that have rejected that premise. Among the diet plans to lose weight which reject calorie counting are the Atkins, the Dukan diet and the Harcombe diet. Recently even the Weight Watchers plan are acknowledging that calorie counting is not the best approach to successful weight loss and they are launching a new diet plan based on the quality of the food rather than on simply counting calories.
What is a calorie?
A calorie is a unit of measure to quantify the energy in food. Thus, for example, the experts have determined that lipids have 9 Kcal per gr. proteins 4 Kcal per gr. They have also determined that there is a need for equilibrium between the calories ingested and the calories spent.
Why are calories useful to lose weight?
Calories are a base to adjust nutritional needs according to sex, age and other counters. It is an international system that serves to understand the nutritional information of food. Calorie counting is also useful to know what we can eat if we are in a diet. However, to lose weight effectively we need to go further than just calorie counting.
Nowadays, diets are less strict, easier to follow and put more emphasis on healthy eating. The new idea is not to eat in terms of calories consumed but in terms of types of food. The new trend is to choose wisely the food we eat rather than count calories. To know that a lean chicken steak is less fattening than an entrecote is more important to keep a healthy weight.
Why stop counting calories?
The idea behind stopping counting calories is that counting your calorie intake on its own is not enough and neither it is accurate towards losing weight. For example, 100 Kcal of tomatoes and lettuce salad does not have the same effect in your body than 100 Kcal of chocolate mousse. Both are light in weight, and both can equal 100 Kcal but the chocolate mousse is going to be more damaging to your silhouette than the salad.
The point is to stop counting calories and think about the composition of the food you are eating. Are you eating fats? Proteins? Carbohydrates?
Counting calories can put your diet in danger
Counting calories alone to lose weight can put your diet in danger because:
We tend to under estimate the number of calories we eat. You might end up eating much more than you are actually eating.
Digestion modifies the caloric value of food. This means that your body doesn’t spend energy assimilating fat but it burns up to 33 Kcal to digest the complex molecules of proteins. A good point for high protein diets!
Calorie counting usually doesn’t take into account the glycemic index which measures the effects of carbohydrates on blood sugar levels. The higher the glycemic index the more insulin our body produces, the more fat it stocks and we get hungry faster.
Calorie counting does not take into account the texture of foods. The texture of foods plays an important role in feeling satisfied after a meal. A 100 Kcal food bar or milkshake is not as satisfying as eating 100 Kcal in fruits.
Why reducing calorie intake is not enough to lose weight?
People who have been in several diets over time have more resistance to weight loss than those who had never dieted. Thus, two women of the same weight and age but with different diet history can see very different results when going under a 1,500 Kcal per day diet.
Another thing to consider is the quality of the food eaten. A 1,500 calorie diet based mainly on carbohydrates does not have the same effect in the body as a 1,500 calorie diet with a high protein content.
