Change What You Crave To Be Able To Lose Weight
If I have to ask you which foods tempt you, a multitude of likely examples wouldn't be ones that are very healthy. I bet examples would be ice cream, potato chips, pizza, or somewhat along those lines. In fact, in your mind just now as you're reading, your underlying thought is about a food that isn't so healthy. Well, aren't you? Stop for a minute and think about it.................... The point I'm set to make in this report is that you can alter what you crave by altering how you think.
Most new clients who come to my office for weight-loss have a "craving problem." But I don't see it as a problem at all. I see it as a solution. Cravings are over-rated. They are hodge-podge and we don't need to be controlled by them. We don't need to feel tempted by ice cream, cookies or 20-ounce prime ribs. Instead, we can be tempted by watermelon, pineapple, oranges or apples; those types of foods. Do you think that sounds crazy? Well it isn't and you'll see why.
When I initially sit and talk with a client about their eating habits, I write down all I need to know about what they eat and how. The culprit to this weight situation always comes down to snacking, picking, eating foods which are unhealthy or just simply, plain over-eating. Then I'll ask them to name a list of fruits and vegetables they like. I'm yet to meet somebone who hates fruit or hates every vegetable there is. Finally I'll ask them how often they consume fruits or vegetables and it's usually a lot less than the unhealthy stuff.
After I've gathered the information I need, we do our thing. I'll have my client lay back in my recliner and close their eyes. I'll direct his/her mind to a peaceful place, and in no time at all they'll be relaxed like never before. Then I start speaking about their prefered fruits and vegetables. I'll ask them to imagine taking a bite of their prefered juicy, ripe fruit and to feel the juices tickling at their taste buds. I'll say to the mind, "from now on anytime you have a craving for food, you will think of a juicy, ripe piece of fruit. And bingo!!! The next thing that happens is these are precisely the sorts of foods they begin to desire. Why? Because anytime you shut your eyes and take yourself to a calm, relaxed place, your subconscious mind emerges, and it is here that the mind controls what you crave. Change your thoughts and you change what you crave. Simple!
Let's view this from a different perspective. Let's say pineapple is your prefered fruit. Now, if you were sitting here now and I gave you a juicy chunk of it, you will enjoy it thoroughly. And you'd want more, right? Of course. Now, let's say I went to my refrigerator, whipped-out a piece of chocolate cake and said, "choose one." You would most likely choose the pineapple because you had just had a teaser-piece, which would have your mind desiring more. The truth is: you enjoy your prefered fruits just as much as you enjoy your prefered junk foods, you merely believe otherwise.
Again, cravings are over-rated. The mere mention of that devilish word usually conjures-up images of high calorie, high fat foods simply because these are the types of foods you are most exposed to in our media driven world. Your subconscious becomes accustomed to this and just doesn't know any better. Change what your mind sees and you'll change your cravings. Help to lose the weight. Here's a quick 5 minute mental exercise you can commence working on now to help you start to have an effect on the way you crave food.
Step 1: Find a comfortable, quiet place that has no distractions. Begin inhaling deeply until you are feeling relaxed. Next, count backwards from 10-1, slowly. With every count, imagine your mind drifting deeper and deeper.
Step 2: When you have finished counting, picture youself relaxing in your favourite place. A secluded beach or a log in the woods will do the trick. Imagine yourself feeling calm and peaceful.
Step 3: Next, imagine a basket brimming with your favorite fresh picked fruit, sitting right beside you. See it vividly in your mind, the color, the feel, the smell, the taste. Imagine having a bite of this juicy fruit and enjoying it like never before.
Step 4: Repeat this statement to yourself 10 times: "From now on, whenever I think of eating, I will feel a craving for fruit."
Step 5: Count up to 5, slowly and when you get to 5, open your eyes.
