Get Fit with A Heart Rate Monitor watch
If you want to get fit and or lose weight quickly and efficiently, the ideal solution would be to have your own Personal trainer or dietician. However if like me, the cost would be prohibitive then the next best thing would be to invest in a heart rate monitor. A heart rate monitor will give you all the benefits of your own personal trainer for a fraction of the cost.
Why is Your Heart Rate so Important
So why is your heart so important when considering either fitness or weight loss? Well your heart is a muscle, and like any muscle the more you exercise it the bigger and more effective it will become. When you heart is healthy, working to its optimum it will pump the blood around your body more efficently, and with less stress.
This is the goal of any fitness regime. The better your heart is working the less it has to do. A side effect of the exercise is that it will burn of calories which means you burn off some of your fat. The basic premise behind any HRM is that from your maximum recommended heart rate, you should be able to exercise within a certain target rate or zone .The target rate is dependent on your level of fitness and overall health. You would not expect a complete novice to have the same target rate as a professional athlete, now would you?
A quick and simple calculation for your maximum heart rate would be 220 minus your age. So for example if you are a 40 year old then your maximum heart rate would be 220-40 =180.Ideally you do not want your maximum heart rate to rise above 180 beats per minute.
How To Calculate You Maximum Heart Rate
The next calculation is to work out your target rate. Now depending on your level of fitness and your fitness or weight loss goals you need to set your target zone.
A complete beginner or novice would be recommended to start there exercise with the intention of getting the heart rate to within 50 to 60% of their maximum heart rate. Therefore, whilst exercising you would need to monitor or read your heart rate to make sure it stayed within 50% to 60% of your maximum. That is, you should be looking to get your heart rate up to 90 to 1000 beats per minute.
Now I don't suppose you fancy taking a maths degree, just so that you can effectively work out your maximum heart rate and then calculate your target zone, let alone be able to do this whilst you are pushing your body on the tred mill do you.NO.Well this is where the heart rate monitor comes to the rescue. You strap it on, tell it your age and fitness goals and it will work all that out for you. Not only that, it will also tell you with a peep and the help of a visible display when you either go over or under your target zone. Therefore, you then know that all the effort you are putting into your fitness regime is paying the most rewards.
