Losing Weight Slowly isn't Easy

We’ve heard it before and it’s not easy to follow, but the quickest way to lose weight is not the best way. Experts tell us, losing weight slowly will, statistically speaking, lead to a more permanent weight loss. But, the truth is, for most of us, slow weight loss is very difficult to endure. This is why so many are looking at how to lose weight quickly instead of slowly. When you’re making a lifestyle change and presumably denying yourself at least some of the pleasures you have in life, you want to see an improvement in your well-being as quickly as possible.

Make Small Changes

There are some things you can do to make your slow weight loss as pleasant as possible. For starters, don’t make a drastic change in your lifestyle. Small adjustments to what you’re used to doing will lead to the most successful results. If your only physical exercise each day is getting out of bed, you probably don’t want to jump into a 60-90 minute workout every day. Start off with something simple like walking or bicycling at a speed a little above normal. Do this for 15-30 minutes for your first week. Slowly increase the time and intensity and you’ll eventually be breaking into a good sweat each day.

Making Minor Restrictions

When it comes to your nutrition, make sure you’re not cutting out all of your favorite foods right from the start. Begin by making some minor reductions in portion size, but still eating the same foods. Measure you’re average daily caloric intake right now and then set some period goals to reach your goal. If you eat a bowl of ice cream every night before you go to bed, change it to the light version for the first week and maybe give yourself one less scoop.

No to Diets

When you make only minor changes to your lifestyle, you’re obviously only going to see minor changes in your weight. But the changes will be considerably less painful and more likely to be something you can endure for the rest of your life. Remember, you don’t want to "go on a diet", but rather, change your eating patterns

Pushing Beyond Your Limits

It really comes down to personality and tolerance for change and sacrifice. Every one should be pushing themselves a little beyond what is comfortable for them. If you don’t push yourself, you’re not really making any changes. Find out what your personal limit  is and then go a bit beyond that. The next week you should be able to go a bit further and before you know it you’re eating a healthier diet and getting into shape.
