How to Improve Your Health and Lose Weight by Playing Airsoft

One of the best ways to lose weight is to use a high energy, interest keeping, form of aerobic exercise. To this point I wish to present airsoft as a good form of the aforementioned form of exercise.

What we do on the airsoft field is what our soldiers train to do, and keep themselves in shape to do. We are in fact playing at what Soldiers are asked to do as a job. This is part of why we getting so many of our troops that play.

Because we seek to do for fun those things that miltary do, it only makes sense that it would help to be in good shape. We carry different levels of equipment (which can add more than a littel weight to your body depending on how MilSim your kit is, and how long your are geared up for playing) which can add weight, If you have both a rifle and a side arm, they both contribute weight, especially if your carrying high quality full metal guns. If you are on a hardcore team you could even end up with helmet mounted night vision, which is not exactly light.

Also if your playing an airsoft op, you could be out there on field for a night or two, in which case the weight you will carry will dramaticly jump. There will be things like bb's, green gas, bedroll, food, radio's, back up guns, and any other assorted sundries you feel you may need.

The very act of carrying this equipment around can start to get you in shape. It is in essence very basic weight training.

Think of it like this; if you started jogging you might decided to put some weight on yourself for added benefit. As you went along and got healthier you would want to increase the weight for further increased benefits.

Your progression in airsoft would most likely (unless your very healthy in the pocket book) parrell the previous scenario quite well.

Let me explain; when you first start you will probably want t start without spending a bunch of money. You will more than likely just buy your safety gear, and your guns/supplies. Thats your starting weight. As you go along you will get healthier, and also you will want to get more gear. Better guns, more equipment, extra magazines, tools, grenades there are a whole lot of accesories and tools that can be bought.

You will get a heavier loadout, and you will be running and moving and sweating. I dare you to play a good game of airsoft and not sweat, even in the winter. It wont happen; if you play a good game you will be worked.

You will be do a lot of moving. You will run, walk, jog, crawl, and maybe even climb. If your like me you will do this for a good 5 hours each time you play. That adds up my freinds.

If your playing a good airsoft field then the terrain should be chaotic at best. Woods, water, obstacles, man made cover, buildings, these things help make a good field and also make alot of stuff to go around.

The very ebb and flow, stop and go nature of the battles leads to some very cardio testing moments if your not careful to breathe properly. There is an up side to this also; if you learn to control your breathing you can get a feel for the rythym of a battle, and then pace your self. It can actually become like a dance, and you just move along to the rythym of the gunfire, and the beat of your own heart.

Speaking of the gunfire, if you are in a good game, you should be firing just as much as your running. Even if you have a lighter gun with more plastic then metal, the lifting anf lowering of your weapon repeatedly can be a nice arm and shoulder workout. You will find that a sling will lessen this, but the weight is still there for you carry, just displaced.

Moving back to the sweat thing, the more you sweat, the more harmful toxins are released from your body. So after a good few hours of airsofting you could drain quite a few toxins out. This could not only excelerate your metabolism, but also increase your energy levels. With your new energy you can play a whole lot more airsoft.

I'm not saying that you could just play airsoft, without eating right, and never moving the rest of the week. However I think there is a valid point that by playing a good game, with some good friends, you could very well further your weight loss goals.
