Losing weight sucks
This is the fact that most people that want to lose weight just can't get their mind around for whatever reason. There is no easy and safe way to lose weight. Gastric bypass can be dangerous ask my aunt who only eats Starbucks, burritos, and ice because everything else makes her sick. Okay probably not the best example, however she did have complications during the procedure and it was touch and go for a while afterward. A close family friend is a weight loss doctor, with fat kids, the drugs he's given out have at times been recalled and several have had class action suits filed against them for their side effects. Working out is probably the most effective means of achieving weight loss because you start to burn more calories than you eat, but if you're fat all physical activities are going to suck. So what can you do?
You can start suffering like everyone else did and start losing weight. The best way to do this is usually to start in moderation, but to be very firm with it. Portion control is the toughest thing I ever tried, but is a necessary first step especially if you're extremely overweight. When a steak becomes the size of a deck of cards it is hard to sit back and say oh yeah I'm full. Some tricks to make portion control more effective, drink water, lots and lots of water. I'm not saying you should drown your organs, but almost every person could use a little more water. Secondly, chew your food longer. This sounds stupid and childish, but your brain tells you you're full 10-15 minutes after you eat something. Chewing your food helps your stomach get the message before you start going up for seconds. Also, we eat to get nutrition and if you chew your food longer it is easier to process and get nutrients out of it. The more nutrients in your system the less likely you are to feel hungry. If you are still having trouble with portion control try using healthy fillers when possible to increase both the nutritional level and size of the meal without drastically increasing your caloric intake. Another trick, and don't ask me why it works because I'm not a psychologist, is to use smaller plates and bowls. We are conditioned to clean our plates and this conditioning makes us feel hungry until we have eaten a full dish. If you use smaller plates it fools this conditioned response and helps you feel full on smaller than usual portions. Every Fat Person knows what's healthy and what isn't, we make conscious decisions to eat unhealthy all the time, so anytime you try to justify something to yourself just remember you're making yourself FAT by doing so. One final piece of advice around food, plan ahead so you don't get stuck eating fast food, the demon that so many of us lose ourselves to. Get up early or stay up later and make yourself a decent meal, not only will you usually save a ton of money, but you'll be eating significantly fewer calories giving you a huge boost toward reaching your goal weight.
Now for the fitness portion of any good weight loss program. Low impact is pretty much all us Fatties can do. Set aside some time hopefully after work, since we Fat People tend to sweat, to get in a good 10-30 minute workout. You should focus on building muscle so you can burn more calories, but any exercise is going to be good for you. Resistance training, small weights, and walking (at a good pace, your shins and calves should feel the burn and don't forget to pump your arms) are some of the more tried and true exercises. Also, don't overdo it on the exercising. If you're a Fatty your risk for heart attack and general injury are going to be increased since you haven't been active lately. Remember, losing weight sucks it will take time, patience, planning, and a lot of suffering, but it can be achieved.
A final weight loss tip misery loves company. If you can find a friend who understands that losing will weight suck try team up to support each other. Nothing helps more than knowing you're not alone in this endeavor.
