Losing Weight
What qualifies me to write about losing weight? I’ve researched how to lose weight in a healthy way for years. I’ve successfully lost and maintained a healthy weight with Jenny Craig in the past and now have lost 13lbs so far with Weight Watches. I’m feeling strong from eating healthy and exercising on a regular basis. I’m getting back to who I really am.
Look below for tips on losing weight for good in a healthy way:
Do it for the Right Reasons:
One reason I’m losing weight is that I’m doing it for the right reasons. I’m not losing weight for friends, family, a significant other, society, or attention. I’m only losing weight for me and to be healthy. I also want to be a great role model for my kids. Showing them that eating healthy food is what will make them feel fantastic and sugary high processed foods will make them feel terrible. I want my children to grow up with positive eating habits to carry them through out their lives. I want them to have a better chance of avoiding disease and getting sick by eating foods that help keep them healthy. Pick the right reasons for losing weight and you will do it and keep it off.
Choose a Healthy Eating Plan:
Read everything on healthy eating and make an educated choice on how you will lose weight. We can all lose weight by cutting back calories drastically, but research has shown that crash diets cause us to gain the weight back and some bonus pounds too. Fresh fruits and vegetables will help you to stay healthy. Choose a rainbow of colorful produce for the biggest health benefits. I have been eating more fruits and veggies but I still eat other foods like: low fat dairy, whole grains, lean meats (although I am cutting way back on meat eating more beans and grains is healthier than eating too much meat).
Drink Lots of the Right Fluids:
In order to lose weight and work out you have to stay hydrated. I have changed my eating and exercising habits since the middle of October 2009 and I have noticed my skin looking better. I have increased my water intake. Stay away from pop or soda, lots of caffeine (tea is better for you than coffee), and too much fruit juice. In Eat to live by Joel Fuhrman MD, he says fruit juice has too much sugar and the best diet you can eat for life is one full of raw fruits and veggies.
Get Support:
You don’t have to pay a lot for a weight loss program you just have to get support and if it works for you work out a program between family and friends. Just make sure you meet on a regular basis to talk and weight in. I have chosen Weight Watchers to support me and it has worked. I tried Weight Watchers before and the reason it didn’t work was I wasn’t ready and I chose the wrong meeting. I think it is key to check out at least a few meetings in your area before deciding where you will go for regular meetings.
You have to feel like you are in the right place, like the person leading the group inspires you, makes you laugh, provides you with the information that you need and that the other people in the group feel right too. Make sure you are getting what you need or it won’t work.
5. Get Educated
Research or join a group that will teach you about healthy eating. Crash diets only work for a short period of time and they won’t help you with long term goals. You can find reading material by looking towards people who have lost weight and inspire you. If it’s a celebrity you may be able to look up and see what they were reading or what they followed to lose weight. What started the ball rolling for me was reading, "Skinny Bitch," a hard talking book about what eating all of this junky processed, white sugar, white flour, and other unhealthy foods are doing to our bodies. The authors are vegan and give up a look into how animals are really treated in slaughter houses. It was an eye opening book with great information but if you can’t get past the bad words that are suppose to be funny then you might not be able to read at least the beginning.
Another book I’m reading right now and finding inspiring which I read about in a fitness magazine that one celebrity changed not only her diet but her life is Eat To Live by Joel Fuhrman, MD about eating a diet high in fiber and fresh fruits and veggies to keep you healthy for life, lose weight more quickly, and prevent disease. Another fantastic series of cook books for busy people is Hungry Girl. The author takes delicious sinful foods and finds healthy and quick alternatives for you. Anyone for a Goey Cinnamon rolls well Hungry Girl has a recipe for that and it looks fantastic. I want to read A Kinder Diet by Alicia Silverstone. It is about eating a vegetarian diet. I enjoyed watching Clueless and know that she has been a vegetarian for a long time.
Allow Yourself Treats, Make Mistakes & Get Back on Track:
You have to allow treats into your diet. You can’t be ultra healthy all the time but you can enjoy something and still lose weight you just have to make adjustments for it in your life. You can eat a piece of cake if you really want it but why don’t you just have a few bites. And if you do go totally crazy one day don’t beat yourself up tomorrow is a new day and so are the next moments when you chose to put something healthy in your body or drink water. You are in charge of what you put into your body and the more healthy foods you put into it the better you will feel and the further away from sugar binges you will be. Sugar actually increases appetite and your body will still be hungry for healthy food that it is missing. If you eat whole grains, fruits and veggies and foods high in fiber your body will be fuller, feel better than any sugar high and you will lose weight.
Exercise:
You have to exercise if you want to lose weight, but it doesn’t have to be something you don’t enjoy. Find an exercise you love and do it. Live your life and get moving. Park further away, play in the snow with your kids and find the joy in life by getting moving.
I feel fantastic since I started losing weight, eating better and working out. I feel strong and healthy. I hope you too will find get healthy for you and feel better.
