You've just spent weeks, maybe months getting your belly trim. The last thing you want is to relax your eating habits, only to find the weight gradually creeping back.

Here are some top tips to help you keep in shape.

Try cutting out one weekly eating habit. If you like pigging out on takeaway pizza on Friday nights, you could be consuming an extra 41,600 calories a year, assuming the average pizza is 800 calories. This is equivalent to almost a stone in weight!

Be aware of how long it takes to burn off the food you eat. Sustaining a healthy weight is all about burning the same amount of calories as you eat. An average slice of angel food cake is approximately 150 calories. In order to burn it off you would have to either:
Skip with a skipping rope for 13 minutes
Walk at around 3mph for 30 minutes


As well as raising your metabolic rate (making it easier to lose weight), exercise also helps boost your motivation to stick to your healthy eating. If you've just done a five mile run, you are not going to want to waste all that hard work by eating a muffin!

Exercising for an hour, to an hour and a half every day (the equivalent of walking a marathon each week) can help you lose two stone, and keep it off for up to six years! This contradicts the theory that exercising a little and often is enough to stay slim.

Losing weight is not easy. For every milestone you reach (I.e. Losing 6lbs, a stone, two stone, five stone) reward yourself with a manicure, massage or a new DVD. This will help keep you motivated, and may go some way to making up for all that chocolate you are missing out on!

Visualise who you want to be, and decide what you have to do in order to get there. To make subtle changes to your body, make subtle changes to your exercise and eating habits. To make dramatic changes to your body, make dramatic changes to your lifestyle.
