Learning how to eat to live can be difficult, especially when you want to lose weight fast. Are you tempted by the fad diets that promise 15 or even 30 pounds of weight loss in the first month? While it would be lovely if excess weight could safely melt away (ideally before bikini season), quick weight loss can be unsafe.
1-2 Pounds a Week Weight Loss
Usually "experts" recommend losing a pound to two pounds a week. I know that's disappointing to some folks. We live in a world of instant gratification. It's common however, to experience quick weight loss in the early stages of a new diet. But it's equally important to remain realistic about what to expect in the long run.
If you're extremely overweight and initially you lose more than 2 pounds a week, that's not bad. In fact, it's normal. The heavier you are, the more weight you will lose initially. But remember, a lot of it initially is water weight that you lose. In the end, you're going to have to learn how to eat to live. That means incorporating lean protein, fruits and vegetables in your diet - and exercise.
