Before starting this or any diet and/or exercise program, you should get a complete physical exam from your doctor.
I have observed over the last 3 decades people all across the country have been getting more and more over weight. I believe it’s do to a number of advances in our so-called modern world. The electronics boom is one of the major culprits. Movie rentals, video games and computers have helped to entertain our minds but fail to entertain us physically. Fast food restaurants are everywhere and as anyone knows, it’s easier and cheaper to buy fast food. Diet, low calorie, low carb and low in fat foods are not necessarily all healthy foods and especially not an excuse to over eat these foods just because they’re so called healthier foods. If you over eat any food your likely to gain weight.
Although thousands of different diets have been around for many years, people are still getting overweight and obese. After doing extensive research I’ve found there is something missing in most diet books. The one thing most diet books were missing was the reason I decided to write "My Best Diet Book™". During the last several years I have helped family, friends, and associates understand why their diets aren’t working for them and what they need to do to make their diet programs work. This book contains that key information that will help you to lose weight and get in shape.
Learn the Secret To Getting Thinner and Healthier!
This is not your typical diet book with hundreds of pages of boring stories and fabricated testimonials, or the latest and most popular celebrity diet of the week. Oh, sure that would make for a thick impressive looking book but it would still be filled with a bunch of unnecessary junk. Instead, this book focuses on only the information you need and nothing more.
You will learn why people don’t stay on they’re diet plans and the elusive key that will help you to lose weight through diet and exercise to become truly healthy and physically fit!
♦ The writer does the most who gives his reader the most knowledge, and takes from him the least time.
- Sydney Smith (1771-1845)
Warning: This book is not for the faint of heart, I don’t pull punches, I tell it as it is! This book is short and to the point, giving you the time you need to get fit and healthy! You’ll become motivated to get off your butt lose those extra pounds through proper diet and exercise and feel fantastic again!
It does not matter what your age is. Anyone, at any age can lose those extra pounds and get in shape and feel great. However, I do believe there are some exceptions. Those people that have a serious health condition or injury(s) that prevent them from dieting and/or exercising.
All the rest of you, read on!
BECAUSE YOU’RE ON THE RIGHT TRACK TO GOOD HEALTH AND HAPPINESS!
For all of you that read the word exercising above and have decided this book may not be for you. The fact is this book is especially for you, because you will never be as happy or truly healthy by dieting alone. In order to be truly, honestly healthy and physically fit you must diet (eat healthy foods regularly) and exercise regularly for life.
That means for the rest of your life, not just before summer gets here or until you reach your target weight. Now you might be wondering why I said "diet and exercise regularly for the rest of your life". I say that because we are all bombarded with quick diet plans that say "lose 10 Lbs. in 5 days" or get back your youthful figure in 30 days and so on. These diet plans might work or they might not. The thing I don’t like about these diet plans is they promise too much too fast and many of them don’t ever mention exercising. Why?
Because the writers of these diet books know most people are terrified of the idea of having to exercise, but they don’t seem to be bothered that much about dieting. I have often wondered why this is and I’ve discovered that most people believe they can cut out fattening or unhealthy foods from they’re meals without too much effort. However, they soon find out that it’s not as easy to cut back on those fattening or unhealthy foods as it sounds and even when they do they most often don’t lose weight fast enough to keep them interested and motivated.
The majority of people growing up today have rather sedentary lives. Meaning our daily lives in the 21st century and beyond requires very little walking to get where we want to go. We sit in our car to go somewhere, we sit and watch television, and we sit at computers and sit and play video and computer games and get little or no basic exercise.
♦ Reach Your Goals Without Torturing Yourself
My philosophy and one of the best decisions I made when I was just out of my teenage years when I began exercising and eating healthy foods regularly is "not to give up the foods I love," especially the chocolates, deserts and candies. Why?
By completely cutting out the foods that have been in my diet for as long as I can remember would deprive my system of the most desirable foods I love to eat.
I knew that giving up my favorite foods completely would make me dislike a new diet plan so much that I might start to question whether it’s worth it. However, by starting a healthier diet plan, while still eating (not as much or as often) the chocolates, deserts and candies, I’ll be more likely and able to slowly cut back on these more desirable fattening foods and stay on the healthier diet plan.
I’ll explain how.
I ate candy for so many years that I no longer cared to eat apples, bananas and many other fruits and vegetables that I use to love as a kid. So, when I decided to eat healthier and exercise regularly, I knew I would need to gradually start eating these healthier foods while cutting back slowly on the candies. In other words, I weaned myself back on the healthier foods.
How did I make it work?
I would buy just one or two of each fruit that I use to like as a child and eat just one of each per day even though I didn’t like the taste half as much as the candy or deserts. I was amazed how the fruit kept me from feeling hungry for a much longer time than when I ate candy. I was still eating candy as I still do today but not nearly as much as I use to.
♦ Dieting is the Triumph of mind over platter.
I knew the key to making this work was to take my time getting use to the healthier foods and very slowly cut back on the candies. This way I’m not depriving myself of the candy to the point of quitting my diet plan. I now eat fruits on a regular basis and I like the taste as much as I use to when I was a child. I still eat the candies and deserts but not nearly as much.
I don’t know anyone who wants to completely stop eating deserts, chocolate, cakes or candies! So, I have found that it’s far better to exercise, eat healthy foods (most of the time) and have your cake and eat it too! When you start your diet plan to lose weight (fat), you must include exercise to get the full benefit of a truly healthier and fitter you.
The next three sentences are among the most important in "My Best Diet Book™". So, please read and understand they’re meaning.
Dieting and eating right will make you healthier but not necessarily physically fitter.
Exercising without eating right will make you physically fitter but not necessarily healthier.
You must do both (Eat healthy foods regularly and exercise regularly) to get the full benefit your body needs to be truly healthy and physically fit.
I believe most people strive to be happy. I also believe that one of the best ways to help achieve happiness is through health and fitness!
I don’t personally keep records of the foods I eat or measure my food or count calories because I believe this will give a person too much of a visual (reminder) of what they eat (food) and your more likely to think about food too much.
I do however believe in keeping an exercise journal (record) so I can track my exercise progress. An exercise journal is a far better visual reminder than one of food. An exercise journal is also a great reminder for the times when you can’t remember what exercises you did last or to help you keep you’re exercises progressing.
"Exercise Journal" - Good (visual) reminder
"Measuring Food" - Bad (visual) reminder
For example: I have found that, when I right down an errand I need to do or something I need to buy on a piece of paper, I’ll usually remember that errand without needing to looking at the piece of paper again. That’s because of the visual part of the errand on the piece of paper at the moment I wrote it down.
In other words you’ll want to remember and think about you’re exercising and not about the foods you eat.
Minister: Speaking to Boy: "Do you say prayers before eating?"
Little Boy, ANSWERS: "No, sir, I don’t need to, my mother’s a good cook".
Every time I hear about someone I know or someone on TV saying, "DIETS DON’T WORK" which is why they are getting fat, staying fat or getting fatter or why they’re not losing the weight they hoped to lose. It’s usually not the diet, it’s because they completely cut out all those foods they love that are fattening and/or they probably never exercised regularly while on that diet which makes the dieting to lose weight (fat) that much harder.
So, they eventually crashed off they’re diet because the desire for the foods they love is far stronger than the desire to lose weight.
Because so many people dread the thought of exercising while dieting to lose weight that they will go on drastic or quick plan diets where their promised to lose as much as 10-20 pounds a week or more. These diets are very popular but are not in my opinion very practical or healthy and they usually make the dieters lives miserable.
Part of the reason these quick fix diets don’t work is they promise too much too fast and usually never have the dieter exercising while on that particular diet. People that are over weight don’t usually get that way overnight, so why should they be expected to lose that weight overnight.
The number one reason I have heard people give as an excuse for not exercising is, "I’m too busy with work or with my family and I don’t have the time to exercise". If this is true in your situation then you must change something in your life to make the time for exercising.
Most people I’ve talked to seem to make plenty of time to go to a baseball game or to the beach but they never seem to run out of excuses as to why they don’t have the time to exercise.
A friend of mine who works and is married with three children and whose wife works is able to exercise regularly and his reason was simple. "I make the time to exercise or I would never be able to". Most of the people I have talked to over the years that want to lose weight never run out of excuses why they don’t have time to exercise. Those same people usually always have time for leisurely activities.
The older people get the harder it’s going to be for them to keep that youthful look and the harder it’s going to be to begin and stay on a regular diet and exercise program. But not impossible.
10-20 years ago, most of the people I’ve seen that were over weight were mostly people in they’re late 30s, 40s and 50s. Now young kids and teens are in that same group. Fast food chains are everywhere and video games and computers are in most homes, which is one of the main reasons people of all ages are getting little or no exercise and are way over weight.
I’ve even had people say to me "I workout every weekday"! I go to work Monday through Friday and that should be enough of a workout.
Work is not exercise! Work is Work and Exercise is Exercise! No one should ever mistake the two for being the same thing, unless your job is an aerobics or weight trainer where you’re doing the exercises with your trainee.
The human body is designed to walk and stand all day and even to run from time to time throughout the day. This is why many people still get overweight even though their job requires them to be on their feet all day. So, if your job requires you to be on your feet all or most of the day and your getting overweight even though you eat healthy foods most of the time you’ll need to start jogging, running or some other cardiovascular exercise that you can do that will make you work-up a sweat without injuring yourself.
I have bad knees but running no more than a couple miles every other day doesn’t bother me but if I run more than that or run every day I start to have pain in my knees. You need to find the right cardiovascular and/or weight training exercises that work best for you and stick to it.
Fast food is more accessible than ever, television, video and computer games have replaced most of the outdoor (physical) games people use to play. People are eating more fattening (fast) foods and getting little or no exercise and by the time they decide to take action and lose weight, they tend to look to a miracle pill or a miracle diet to take off all those extra pounds.
When their diet doesn’t help them lose weight fast enough or in the time period it promised too they usually give up. When all along the key to making that diet plan work was right in front of them all along. It’s called exercise! The one simple addition to make most, if not all diet plans work. Unfortunately, most people won’t ever think of it because the thought of exercising is unthinkable.
Or, they might have exercised once in the past and felt some pain in they’re muscles and quit.
We all feel pain in our muscles from exercising and there is nothing wrong with it (as long as the pain isn’t from an injury while working-out or doesn’t go away) because it will pass within a few days.
Pain or aching muscles from exercising will not remain as long once you exercise on a regular basis and you should never think of the pain from exercising as something bad or something you never want to feel again. Pain from exercising should always be thought of as a friendly reminder that you’ve done your workouts and are on your way to a healthier lifestyle.
This statement might seem rather odd but remember, getting yourself on track to eating right and exercising regularly is all a state of mind. Once you exercise regularly the physical high and the physical energy you gain by far outweighs any muscle pain you feel in the process.
"If you feel pain in your bones or joints during or after exercising you should stop and consult a physician before continuing. Bone or joint pain could be from a previous injury that is irritated by the exercises you’re doing."
Because many people are so afraid of cutting out those foods they love or they can’t resist the temptation of eating those foods they love that they fail the diet they’re on not the other way around. The fact is most diets will work just fine if you simply add 10-20 minutes of exercise per day. If that sounds like too much to start off with, then exercise 10-15 minutes every other day until you are able to exercise for a longer period of time.
♦ Doing Nothing Is The Best Way To Get Nowhere!
Remember 10-15 minutes or 10-20 minutes per day is not the law. It’s simply a measurement of exercise time to help you get started. Even 5 minutes per day is better than nothing. If 5 minutes of exercise per day is all you can handle at first then 5 minutes of exercise per day is good enough. You start with the exercises and length of time that best fits your schedule and your fitness level. The most important thing is to get started as soon as possible!
Now, don’t get me wrong, I do believe people can lose a lot of extra weight by dieting alone. What I don’t believe is that you should diet (and completely cut out those foods you love) without regular exercise too.
Remember, there is no quick fix, no safe magical diet pill and no magical Hollywood or Celebrity diet that can take the place of a sensible healthy diet and a regular exercise plan.
Making up your mind to go on a diet, (eating right) exercising and staying fit every day, every year for the rest of your life is all up to you. We all have it in us to change our habits for the better.
♦ Make Goals of Your Dreams - Not Dreams of Your Goals!
Within the first few days of beginning your dieting and exercising, when your body starts saying I’m tired or I’m sore is something everyone that exercises experiences and all you have to do is think of that pain as your friend, instead of your enemy. Now, your probably thinking, yea right, pain is my friend, not my enemy. But, try it and you’ll begin to understand why this simple psychology of mind over body or mind over pain works.
It’s only natural for people to want to stop doing something (like exercising) that has caused them some pain and that’s one of the reasons why so many people quit they’re diet and exercise program. I use this psychology on myself every single time I workout. Once you do, you’ll be well on your way to health and fitness like you’ve been dreaming of.
Another reason I have found why people most often quit they’re diet and/or exercise program. Once they’re on the diet for a few days or weeks and haven’t lost any weight or have lost very little weight, they tend to think, "This just isn’t working for me" and give up.
♦ Believe me, this will work for you
You’re no different than other people that have been successful with dieting. It simply takes a little rethinking about your lifestyle.
It’s going to take your body a little while to get use to the change you’re putting it through. If you think it was super easy and effortless for all the people you see on TV that have lost weight, think again. Remember, people don’t get fat overnight and losing weight the right way and the safest way isn’t going to happen overnight either.
♦ Some very important things you should know and always keep in mind once you start dieting and exercising:
The first 1-3 months of dieting and exercising are the most critical. This is the time period when most people fail they’re diets and/or exercises. The reason for this is, your body isn’t use to this change.
Some people will see immediate results and then a week or two later they don’t seem to lose any more weight. Don’t freak out or lose hope, this is because your body accepted the change at first and then started to resist. Again, keep at it because your body will give in and the weight will start to drop.
You might not see results right away or you’ll see very little result at first. That OK, stick with your diet and exercising because your plan is working, your body is simply taking longer to respond to the changes. What ever you do, don’t say "I’ve been on this plan for one, two or three months now and nothings happening, so I might as well quit".
The fact is, a lot is happening, you’re getting healthier and fitter and your weight loss is on its way. If your weight loss takes you longer than you want it to, don’t get discouraged. Just say to yourself
♦ "I can do this, I will do this, I will not quit because I’m not a quitter"!
Again you shouldn’t be concerned with losing weight quickly or getting to your goal in record time. You should be very proud of yourself for sticking with it. If it takes you twice or three times as long to get to your goal weight, so what! You’re still getting to your goal and that’s the most important thing. Cherish the process of getting to your goal so when you get there you’ll understand that the process (eating right and exercising regularly) is far more important than the goal alone.
Remember this…
You don’t have to spend money on a diet book or an exercise book to learn how to eat right or exercise right. Everyone knows when he or she is eating junk food and just lying around being lazy.
And most people know what foods are healthy and what exercises are good for them! It’s simply a matter of making a change that’s as easy as walking to the produce section of a food store rather than driving up to a fast food restaurant.
And don’t bother trying to impress the people around you like family and friends because the bottom line is your doing this for yourself, for your health and fitness.
Even if, from time to time while your on your diet and exercise plan you slack off for a few days, a few weeks, or even a few months for what ever reason. Don’t let that stop you and your ultimate goal, which is the long term health and fitness, you’re committing yourself to.
♦ Remember, your ultimate goal should be to get fit and healthy for the rest of your life.

P.S.
Here’s a simple common sense thing that is so important that it needed to be added to "My Best Diet Book™". Every day we get out of bed and expect our body to perform 100% without any problems. And yet we are really taking it (our body, our health) for granted. What we should think about all the time is taking care of our body so it can take care of us. It’s on the same principle as "we are what we eat". We should always (everyday) take care of our body, our health so, when we get out of bed it’s able to take us where we want to go, when we want to go, without fail.
"Take care of your BODY and your BODY will take care of you"!
