Liquid Diet

Liquid Diet

If you’re someone who’s interested in losing weight fast, one thing you might want to consider is going on a liquid diet. Liquid diets are a newer form of aggressive dieting that allows your metabolism to quickly process what you consume. You can get all the nutrition you need from drinks although you may have to train your body to not hunger for food.

Why your body gets hungry

When you’re hungry your body is typically empty. Often you will get a hunger feeling which is your body’s way of telling your brain that it needs nutrition. Your body has a natural mechanism for satisfying hunger. When you eat, you consume substances that fill your stomach. One your stomach has been filled to an acceptable level, the body turns off the signals to your brain saying it’s hungry. What most people who are overweight do is continue to eat past the point of allowing the body to turn off the hunger feeling.

Now that we understand how the body works when it comes to hunger, the next step is to train it to accept liquid as its form of food. Fortunately there are some liquids that have properties that make the body feel full. One of my favorites is the Carnation Instant Breakfast. It comes in a powder form which is mixed with milk. Milk is another liquid which is naturally filling. I have at least 2 of these each day. The first dose I take right when I wake up in the morning and another mid afternoon. I usually have a lunch that is healthy as well which is made up of food. I’m not on a completely liquid diet at the present moment.

How to begin a Liquid Diet

What you want to do is ease onto the liquid diet then ease off of it. If you go from all food to all liquid, your body is going to go into a form of shock. It will be all out of order and will release painful feelings which are meant to signal to the brain that it wants food. In order to avoid these painful feelings, go slowly. Start by having an Instant Breakfast for a meal in the morning as opposed to what you would typically eat. Most people don’t actually eat breakfast which is one of the main reasons they are overweight. Your body needs to "break the fast" after sleeping for 5-8 hours. You have about a 30 minute window to put something in your body before it enters a ketogenic state. During keotgenesis your body will start to look for something other than what’s in your stomach for fuel. Typically your body will start with protein which is stored in your muscles.

A one month plan for up to 30 lbs of weight loss

Start with a month long plan to ease on to the liquid diet. The first week just have the liquid breakfast followed by normal lunch, snacks and dinner. The second week you should have a liquid breakfast and dinner, leaving the lunch with food. However, do not eat your lunch all in one setting. Split it up into three sections. Take a sub sandwich for example. Take your six inch sub and cut it into three pieces. If you normally eat lunch at Noon then start with the first part of your sub at 11:30. Eat the second at Noon, followed by the last part at 12:30. This way you’re giving your body enough time to process the food and not store fat. Remember to have a liquid meal for dinner. The third week you can try going full liquid for all three meals. By this time your body should be accepting of liquid being the substitute for food. The forth week you can start easing your way back to food by eating lunch in three sections again. After a month, if you’ve done it correctly, you should lose between 10-25 pounds. The amount of exercise will also greatly impact the amount of weight you lose.

My current favorite liquid diet is the Lemonade Diet. This one is not for a beginner. It consists of lemonade for detoxification along with doses of maple syrup for nutrition. This is an extremely aggressive diet and should be done with the oversight of a doctor and nutritionist.
