Are you trying to lose weight fast? The Cabbage Soup Diet may be something you could try if you want to get rid of the evidence of overindulging during the holiday season.
The Cabbage Soup Diet plan is a 7 day plan designed to shred those pounds quick and like most diets it has its pros and its cons. It is a low fat, high fiber diet that is only suited for short termed weight loss - ideal for getting those pounds off for in time for a wedding or special event but if you're serious about losing and keeping the weight off, a more long termed weight loss plan should be considered.
The Cabbage Soup Diet Plan
With the Cabbage Soup Diet plan, you have to eat cabbage soup for a whole week in combination to a other foods that change each day.
Multivitamin tablets are highly recommended.
Day 1
Eat only fruits (except for bananas) along with your cabbage soup. Drink only coffee, unsweetened tea, cranberry juice or/and water.
Day 2
Eat only vegetables (except for legumes like peas, beans, corn etc). Try to eat fresh, raw or cooked vegetables that include leafy green veggies. Eat your cabbage soup and don't eat any fruit today. At dinner you can eat a baked potato with butter.
Day 3
Day 3 is a combination of Day 1 and Day 2. Eat fruits today (again no bananas) as well as vegetables along with your soup. No baked potato today though.
Day 4
If you like bananas, then today is the day you get to eat them. Eat up to 8 bananas and drink lots of skim milk along with your cabbage soup.
Does the Cabbage Soup Detox Diet Work?
The Cabbage Soup Detox Diet does work if you want to lose weight fast but it was not designed for long termed weight loss.
It is also not considered a safe diet either as some people who have tried the cabbage soup diet complained that they become disoriented, nauseous, lightheaded and find it hard concentrating. However, they were happy to put up with these discomforts since the diet was only for a week and the benefit of losing some pounds far outweighed the cons.
The Cabbage soup detox diet should not be done for more than 7 days with at least 2 weeks in between for obvious reasons.
The diet doesn't have sufficient amout of carbs, proteins, vitamins and minerals to sustain you for longer than the period prescribed.
The diet is basically what you call a starvation diet and is too risky, healthwise.
Some other cons of the Cabbage Soup diet:
The soup is rather bland and you become 'fed up' after a few day of just cabbage soup.
the weight you lose is mostly water weight (not all).
After the diet is done, you will regain weight rapidly.
Lots of cabbage = lots of gas.
Not a long termed diet plan.
Children and adolescents should not try the cabbage soup diet - it is only for adults.
The diet also has some benefits:
You can expect to lose anywhere from 10 - 15 lbs in 7 days.
Great if you just want to lose weight for a wedding or special event.
Low cost.
Cleanses your body hence the name - detox diet.
If you do get through the cabbage soup diet, you'll have the discipline it requires for a more long termed weight loss plan.
A great diet plan you can try that has works for thousands of others is the Fat Loss 4 Idiots plan. Its quite similar to the plan used on the hit tv show The Biggest Loser and has been around for more than 4 years.
