The holidays usually result in a weight gain of a pound or two. That doesn't sound like much but after ten years you've gained ten pounds. Here are afew tips to get rid of holiday weight gain.

1. Drink lots of water, preferably ice water. Water flushes toxins through your system, which is always a good thing. Drinking a glass of ice water cools down your body temperature. Your body will burn about 25 calories to bring the temperature back up. If you drink 4 glasses of ice water throughout the day you've burned 100 calories with no other changes.

2. Switch just one high fat item for a low fat item. if you always have real cream in your coffee switch to a non diary creamer or use skim milk. Always have butter on your toast use cream cheese it's half the calories. Instead of regular potato chips have pretzels they're quite a bit lower in fat and calories.

3. Eat an apple about 20 minutes before dinner. It takes that much time for your tummy to signal your brain you're full. Get a jump start with an apple appetizer. The pectin in the apple makes you feel fuller as well.

4. Don't deprive yourself. If you are dying for a piece of chocolate you will still want it even if you've eaten an entire bunch of celery instead. So have a small piece of chocolate, cookie, or whatever it is you're craving, then stop.

5. When dining out only eat half of the entree, save the rest to take home. Or order cup of soup, a salad and a low fat appetizer to be served as your entree. You won't eat nearly as much but you'll feel just as satisfied and you'll save money as well.
