How Food Combining Can Help You Lose Weight

We all know how most diets don't work, (you can read all about it here), but is there anything you can do which might help? If you want to lose weight fast at home, here is a way of approaching how you plan your meals which might just help you. It's called food combining and if utilised with a raw food diet, it's a sure way of losing weight fast at home.

Digestion is probably the highest energy consuming activity that our bodies ever undertake on a regular basis, and the harder we expect our digestive systems to work, the more energy we have to put into it. The classic example we have all experienced is what happens after that huge Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner - nearly everyone falls alseep because all their energy has been put into digesting dinner!

Now here is an idea:
It must make sense to eat a little less and save some of that energy to stay awake. But, how about if you could find some way of making your digestive system more efficient so you could save a whole lot of energy every day. It is also a fact that the longer foodstuff is in your digestive system, the more calories your body will absorb from it.

So, simply by changing your diet to raw foods you help your digestive system to become more efficient, because they are easier to digest and they pass through more quickly.

But, there is something else you can do which will make a huge difference, and it's so easy.

Enzymes are the vital ingredients which our bodies add to food to start the process of digestion. It takes different enzymes to digest carbohydrates and proteins. The enzymes which work on proteins need to combine with acid to work, while the enzymes which help digest starch need an alkaline environment. The problem is most of us do something which makes it impossible for them to do their jobs properly.

What is it we do? We mix proteins and carbohydrates in the same meal, creating a situation where our bodies are completely confused! On the one hand, we are producing acids to digest proteins, and at exactly the same time, we are producing alkalis to digest carbohydrates. The result of mixing acid and alkali like this is that the two substances cancel each other out.

The net result is that nothing gets digested properly, no matter how much energy your body puts into the process.

However, if you ate your proteins and carbohydrates at different meals, just think how much easier you would make the whole task. Also, because vegetables can be digested by either acids or alkalis, you will still have a perfectly acceptable meal in front of you.

With this simple method, you couls make your digestive system much more efficient, saving yourself a whole heap of energy. This would in turn enable you to cut down on the amount you eat and suddenly the whole idea of losing weight fast at home becomes a whole lot easier!

What Can I Eat On A Raw Food Diet?

Ok, so you like the idea of food combining to help you lose weight fast at home, and you're maybe even considering taking a look at a raw food diet. But it sounds kinda weird, huh? I mean raw food? Yeah, I know, I felt like that too, and I do understand why the name puts some people off. But if eating raw food conjures up a picture of blood and gore dripping down your chin, you are definitely way off the mark! Let me explain:

What exactly do I mean by a raw food diet? The raw foods we're talking about here are fruits and vegetables. Organic is always best, but not essential. The whole point of a raw food diet is to retain as much of the natural goodness of the foods, so if you are going to cook the temperature cannot be hotter than 116 degrees, since heat can destroy all the important nutrients and enzymes in the food. However, a raw food diet is said to provide you with one of the best ways to achieve fast weight loss results.

Strictly speaking, meats and dairy products are not a part of a raw food diet, so it will take some getting used to if these foods were originally a big part of your diet. However, it is possible to follow a less strict regime, which allows you to eat sensible amounts of these products whilst still following a healthy diet and lifestyle, but you do need to keep the volumes down. That's the way I have gone, and I still feel much better and have keep my weight under control without any effort.

Here are some foods you can consume on a raw food diet:

* Fresh fruits and vegetables are the staple of a raw food diet, and so are very important. 

* Nuts, seeds, and grains.  These ingredients can be a nice touch to a variety of raw food diet recipes.

* Dried fruits.   Most grocery stores and health food stores offer dried apricots, prunes, raisins, etc. Dried apricots are a tasty healthy snack at any time.

* Water that has been purified (not tap water).  It is recommended you buy bottled water, distilled or spring water. This is healthier than drinking from the tap.

* No dairy products-only milk from a fresh, young coconut.

* Juices that are freshly made.  Purchasing a juicer makes this possible.

* Basically all organic foods that have not been processed can be a part of the raw food diet.

It's important to soak all dried fruits and nuts.  Many of the seeds, beans, and grains can be sprouted for added nutrition. 

Ways you can properly prepare your food on the raw food diet is to juice your fruits and vegetables, blend your foods-such as the nuts, seeds and grains-and chop your ingredients. When on the raw food diet, you should not buy fruit juices from stores, since they are usually not 100% natural or have added sugars. 

Naturally, juicing the fruit will give you no worries as to what other ingredients are involved and if there is added sugar. What you see is what you get and this is very beneficial to your health.

Why do people suggest the best way to lose weight fast at home is by changing to a raw food diet?

1. Raw food improves your overall health. Because of the natural nutrients in raw food, your weight quickly normalises which means a reduction in fat.

There are a couple of points to be aware of if a raw food diet is going to be successful:

1. Be aware of your intake. Many people assume that raw foods means fewer calories. This is not necessarily the case as many fruits and vegetables contain sugars. These are not the unrefined sugars you need to avoid, but they are sugars none the less. Portions should still be kept within reason. If an individual decides to gorge on various fruits and vegetables, the caloric intake will actually cause the person to gain weight rather than lose it.

2. Some foods actually increase in nutritional value when cooked. The increase in lycopene that is released when tomatoes are cooked is one such example.
