Two Year Study on Weight Loss Can't Be Wrong
A two year study revealed that the tried and true way for weight loss is to count the calories and to exercise to lose weight. Twenty years after the debate on what is the better, low-carbs, protein, grapefruit or whatever; the best way from research states that counting calories and exercising is best for losing weight.
The pounds lost were modest because the dieters on the two year study had difficulty staying on any weight loss plan for a prolonged length of time. However, conclusive evidence proved that weight was lost and the reason was that the participants for the most part, counted their calories and exercised daily.
In America the overweight statistics are now at over 60%, news of this new research was widely accepted. Sustainability on a weight loss of counting calories is a lot easier than trying to figure out the amount of carbs or protein that is consumable in order to lose weight. Diets such as the Atkins and the the Zone weight loss plan pitted these different ingredients against each other when the most important component of a diet is to count calories and to exercise for weight loss.
The New England Journal of Medicine from the Harvard School of Public Health and the Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Louisiana concluded the fact that counting calories and exercising is still by far the best way to lose weight. Almost two-thirds of the participants were women and were encouraged to cut their daily calories by 750 and to exercise 90 minutes a week. The women on this research study also had to keep an online journal of their calories and to report to diet counselors on a weekly basis to chart their weight loss progress. The average weight loss was 13 pounds over a six month period.
The second year of the study discovered that the average weight loss over a six month period was 9 pounds. The participants lost an average of 2 inches off of their waistlines. Fifteen per cent of the research participants lost ten per cent or more of their starting weight.
The weight loss participants who attended the most counseling sessions were more consistent in their weight loss. This facts let weight watchers know that if they go on a weight loss plan as a group effort, their success rate at losing weight will increase significantly.
