With today’s hectic lifestyles, healthy eating can often be put on hold. However, you can feel and look great while still enjoying the foods you love. A healthy eating guide and diet plan is a great place to start. You just need to follow a few guidelines to set out on the journey to a new you.
Every year comes and goes as does the resolutions and self-promises to lose weight. Diet plans are great but in order to reach a healthy weight and achieve your goals, you need to ensure that you take note of a few things:
· Maintenance - Make sure you can maintain the diet you undertake. The last thing you want to do is give it away because it’s too drastic a change from your current lifestyle. Ease into it!
· Set small goals – Incremental change is one approach that sees you achieve a milestone and then aim for the next. Continued goal setting is the key to you travelling the path you originally set out on.
· Still enjoy the foods you love – Life is here to be enjoyed – and so is good food! While you should eat wholesome, healthy meals, you can still enjoy those you love. All in moderation!
· Listen to your body – It tells you more than you think. Consult a doctor or nutritionist if you are unsure about a particular diet plan.
Diet Tips
Along with the above considerations, here are some further ideas to keep in mind:
1. Smaller meals, more often – A ‘grazing’ approach to daily eating cycles helps the body digest food more easily while maintaining energy levels and increasing your metabolism.
2. Get your daily protein requirements – Chicken, turkey and tuna. You’ll find protein in many foods, some with higher concentrations than others. Protein helps to maintain lean muscle and fire up your fat-burning metabolism.
3. Reduce bad fats – The old ‘good fats versus bad fats’ cliché is true! Stay away from Saturated fats and Trans fats to help shed the pounds.
4. Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables – Full of vitamins and minerals, fruit and veg should be in every diet plan and at the forefront of healthy eating.
5. Keep your kitchen prepped for healthy meals – Stock the food basics. You’ll be amazed at just how many meals you can make with some on-hand essentials.
6. Make a list of healthy recipes – Keep a list of healthy recipes handy for easy reference. By changing your situation or environment to assist you, you will be more likely to make important diet changes.
7. Drink lots of water – Keep your hydration by drinking 2-3 litres (approximately 8 glasses) of water a day. Note: This may change depending on the intensity and/or duration of your exercise habits.
8. Chew your food – Obvious? Maybe not. However, by breaking down the food in your mouth, you increase the rate of digestion in your stomach. This is because the stomach is relieved from doing all the work!
Just remember that your ideal healthy weight will be different to the next persons but the rules for weight loss are the same. By preparing a healthy eating guide, implementing a diet plan and following the above diet tips, you will maximise your energy and maximise your life!
