Tips For Losing Weight

Tips For Losing Weight-The Right Way

Hi my name is Wayne and I love to work out and be healthy. It wasn't always that way though. Seventeen years ago I was a bit of a mess. I was in the army and found myself about 40lbs overweight. This was not something I was used to as I had always been in pretty good shape throughout school. I was in need of losing some weight and I needed to lose weight fast.

When I started to be able to see my stomach stick out through my BDU's (that's what the army uniform is called) "they are made to fit loose so this was a big deal" I decided that it was time to start losing weight. And losing weight is just what I did. I read every book and magazine I could find on the subject of losing weight because losing weight was not something I was familiar with.

I started watching what I ate and working out twice a day. I would go to the gym and get in a quick workout during lunch and then again at night. I did this for two straight months. I started to notice something after about the first couple of weeks. I was losing weight! That only stoked my fire and made me want to workout harder. I continued to lose weight every week. I ended up within two months losing 40lbs of pure fat. Something else happened as well. In those two months I found out something, I loved working out. To this day I still work out religiously and still love it just as much.

Losing weight does not have to be hard, in fact losing weight can be quiet fun. Find some type of exercise that you love to do and it will all fall into place.

Losing weight is about choices that we make. Make the right choice and the losing weight part comes easy. Losing weight is 90% mental and 10% physical.

By that I mean that you can workout all the time but if you make the wrong choices in your diet you will never lose the weight you want. I am reminded of when I was 12 and used to go to football practice. There was a track around the field that we practiced at so people would come and walk while we were practicing. I would see people walk around the track for several laps and then set down on the bench and eat a snickers bar before continuing their walk. Even at that young age I would think to myself why would you put forth all that effort walking around the track just to ruin it by eating a candy-bar. Choices!

I don't know for sure but I would bet money that those women never lost the weight they were trying too and eventually gave up.

Now I am not saying that you have to give up everything that you love and go cold turkey and start eating sprouts and Kale. Just make a slight adjustment instead of eating the candy-bar why not eat an apple or banana. You still get something sweet and you get satisfied without the added calories.

Small choices go a long way. If you give up one soda a day you will be taking away over 360 calories a day from your diet. 360 calories a day amounts to about 10lbs in a year. That may not sound like a lot but that is just from one small little change. Imagine what would happen if you added some exercise to your day and burned another 360 calories. Hmmmm? Now we are at 20lbs.

See how that works.

Another thing to be weary of is snacking. Most people are shocked when they find out how many calories a day they take in just from snacking. You walk by Joe's desk at the office and grab a small handful of M&Ms. Okay not a lot right? Your right it's not but when you add it to the cookie, the bag of skittles, a few chips in front of the t.v. bam you just sucked down 400-500 calories.

Choices, Choices, Choices!

Start small and work your way up. That's where most people get into trouble, they go on a diet and jump in with both feet. They throw out everything in the house and start eating plain salads and celery. Both good things to eat but very hard for the average person to maintain for very long.

Get a plan and stick with it. If you have the knowledge to write one up for yourself great, if not then do some research and find you a good one that you can stick with.

The important thing to remember is that you can do it, you can lose the weight that you want you just have to make the right choices. Start out with one day not with a amount. Decide for that one day that you will eat healthy and you will get some exercise then at the end of the day congratulate yourself and go to bed feeling good that you accomplished something. Then get up and do it all over again.

Those are a few of the tips that I have for losing weight, there are really to many to list here. If you would like more advice and tips on losing weight you can check out my blog.

Dieting Myth's

Low Carb Diets

Just about everyone has tried low-carb, Atkins-style diets, or at least heard of them. These diets do not work. They are way too strict, not sustainable, and make you miserable becasue your body does not function properly without carbs. They can cause headaches, irritability and loss of sleep. Low carb diets will actually cause you to gain weight after the initial weight loss.

Low Fat Diets

You know all these so called "low fat" foods that are sold in your local supermarket? These foods are typically calorie ridden and will actually make you gain more weight! Low fat foods DO NOT equal weight loss. Beware The Diet Foods!

Starvation Diet

Your Body requires food to function. Losing weight the wrong way by not eating is actually worse for you than gaining weight. Extreme calorie reductions diets, drinking only liquids, or some of the other crazy diet's out are bad news. It will affect the way your brain functions and slow your metabolism down to a GRINDING HALT! If your body feels like it is starving it is designed to save itself and you can actually gain weight. You CANNOT lose weight and stay healthy by starving yourself of nutrition.

Following Pre-package Diet Programs

I know a lot of people will take offense to this one and I am aware that a lot of people have been able to lose weight on these diets but you are still eating processed prepackaged foods. You can make much healthier better tasting food at home. Not only that, prepackaged food diets (like Jenny Craig) can cost you up to $500 per month to maintain! That is more than most families spend on groceries in an entire month. How does this make sense?

Hollywood Diets

The only diet that seems popular in Hollywood is the one where the actors and actresses forget to eat. There are also the ridiculous "cookie" diets, secret potion "syrup and water’ diets... Let’s get real, these diets do not work, do not try them.

25 Of The Best Tips For Losing Weight

1. Skipping meals. Many healthy eaters "diet by day and binge by night."
2. Don't "graze" yourself fat. You can easily munch 600 calories of pretzels or cereal without realizing it.3. Eating pasta like crazy. A serving of pasta is 1 cup, but some people routinely eat 4 cups.43. Eating supersize bagels of 400 to 500 calories for snacks.4. Ignoring "Serving Size" on the Nutrition Facts panel.5. Snacking on bowls of nuts. Nuts are healthy but dense with calories. Put those bowls away, and use nuts as a garnish instead of a snack.6. Thinking all energy bars and fruit smoothies are low-cal.7. A smoothie made with fat-free milk, frozen fruit, and wheat germ.48. The smallest fast-food burger (with mustard and ketchup, not mayo) and a no-cal beverage. Then at home, have an apple or baby carrots.9. A peanut butter sandwich on whole wheat bread with a glass of 1 percent milk and an apple.10. Precooked chicken strips and microwaved frozen broccoli topped with Parmesan cheese.11. A healthy frozen entree with a salad and a glass of 1 percent milk.12. Scramble eggs in a nonstick skillet. Pop some asparagus in the microwave, and add whole wheat toast. If your cholesterol levels are normal, you can have seven eggs a week!13. A bag of frozen vegetables heated in the microwave, topped with 2 tablespoons of Parmesan cheese and 2 tablespoons of chopped nuts.14. Prebagged salad topped with canned tuna, grape tomatoes, shredded reduced-fat cheese, and low-cal Italian dressing.15. Keep lean sandwich fixings on hand: whole wheat bread, sliced turkey, reduced-fat cheese, tomatoes, mustard with horseradish.16. Heat up a can of good soup.17. Cereal, fruit, and fat-free milk makes a good meal anytime.18. Try a veggie sandwich from Subway.19. Precut fruit for a salad and add yogurt.20. Don't tell yourself, "It's okay, it's the holidays." That opens the door to 6 weeks of splurging.21. Remember, EAT before you meet. Have this small meal before you go to any parties: a hardboiled Egg, Apple, and a Thirst quencher (water, seltzer, diet soda, tea).22. As obvious as it sounds, don't stand near the food at parties. Make the effort, and you'll find you eat less.23. At a buffet? Eating a little of everything guarantees high calories. Decide on three or four things, only one of which is high in calories. Save that for last so there's less chance of overeating.24. For the duration of the holidays, wear your snuggest clothes that don't allow much room for expansion. Wearing sweats is out until January.25. Give it away! After company leaves, give away leftover food to neighbors, doormen, or delivery people, or take it to work the next day.
