What is your perfect diet and what is a perfect diet?
What is a diet first of all? A diet is the food you eat on a daily basis. For instance when someone says I am on a diet they are referring to the foods they are currently eating.
Now nine times out of ten they probably mean they are trying to lose some weight. So how does a person choose the right diet for them? Well that depends on many things one being what goal are they trying to reach.
Do they want to lose body fat. Maybe just want to eat healthier so they feel better inside and out. Maybe they want to bulk up and grow themselves some big ole muscles. Depending on what their goal is they then have to look at what body type are they.
A mesomorph, ectomorph or endomorph. Age plays a factor as any of you older people know as I do that when you get older the metabolism slows down and you just can't eat the same as when you were a teen or in your early twenties.
A dieting goal could be longer life
Maybe choosing the right diet for you has nothing directly to do with losing weight. Maybe it is about extending your life.
There have been studies done on the diets some countries eat that actually help these people get to 100yrs more often than most other parts of the world.
One factor that a few different regions of the world shared is that they consumed a lot less calories in a day than the rerst of the world. Less calories means your body doesn't have to work as hard digesting the food and you won't be putting as much toxins in your system etc. One other thing in common is that they did not eat much meat.
I read an article recently that Dr Sanjay Gupta (best known for being CNN's Chief Medical Correspondent) wrote and mentioned 3 countries that out live most of us on average.
Japan was one, Sardinia which is off the coast of Italy and the third one which is actually a province in Canada called Nova Scotia.
Some of the foods they eat are Atlantic Salmon, Tuna (not canned), blueberries, Spinach, Olive oil etc.
The Mesomorph body type
The Mesomorph usually don't have too much trouble gaining muscle and if they want they don't have much trouble losing body fat thanks to a great metabolism.
So chances are if you are reading this you might not be a mesomorph.
Lucky you.
The Ectomorph body type
The Ectomorph is the skinny person that probably has a hard time gaining muscle or a belly for that matter.
So a diet that an Ectomorph might want to learn more about is what they should eat to gain muscle.
To gain muscle they need to consume at least 1.5 grams of protein per lean pound of body weight.
Make sure you are also eating more calories in a day than your body needs to maintain your current weight. I think 500 calories more a day than you need to maintain is sufficient.
The Endomorph body type
The Endomorph is the body type that is prone to be over weight, some might say fat.
If your goal is to shed some body fat then my suggestion is to cut out high glycemic foods. You know those yummy starchy foods most of us like, like potatoes, white rice, corn, white bread etc.
Eat a lot of fresh vegetables and fruit, fish, chicken, eggs.
Find out what your daily caloric needs are and cut out 500 of those calories a day if you want to lose a pound a week which I think is the safest way to do it.
Your less likely to gain the weight back if you don't get to drastic with cutting your calories.
Finally
I hope I have been able to help you figure out what kind of a diet is right for you.
Whether the diet you pick is to lose weight or maybe to gain weight or quite possibly the main motivator is to prolong your life just remember that is can be done with persistence and consistency.
Also remember to exercise on a regular basis.
Exercise will help you feel better about yourself and will most likely motivate you to stick to your game plan with whichever route you take with your diet.
Good luck.
