Why You Haven’t Lost Weight Yet
Have you tried every fad diet and exercise program on Earth, but without success? When we fail to start seeing results, it’s easy to throw in the towel and sit down with a ton of our favorite "comfort food." Of course, that’s the least effective way to lose weight, because you’ll actually be gaining it! If you’re wondering why you haven’t lost weight yet, here are some of the most likely reasons:
Reason #1: You’re overeating
One of the keys to losing weight is to cut calories and fat. Try keeping a "food journal" for an entire week, keeping track of what you’re eating. This will help you to find where you’re consuming too many calories and too much fat.
One of the best ways to cut calories is to eat smaller portions. We live in a "Super Size" society in which we’ve been trained to believe that "bigger is better." Consider the fact that your stomach is about the size of your fist. So it makes more sense to eat small portions of the ‘right" (healthy) foods.
Reason #2: You’re exercising too little
To get the best results, experts recommend that you combine a cardio workout with resistance training. The cardio workout should include 30-minute sessions that are five days weekly, and at a moderate-to-high intensity level. Meanwhile, the resistance training should be two days weekly, on non back-to-back days. This resistance training could involve weightlifting, or exercises that use your body to create natural resistance.
Reason #3: You’re not getting enough shut-eye
What does sleeping have to do with weight-loss? Think of your body as a machine. Most healthy adults need 6-8 hours of sleep nightly. This gives our bodies a chance to rest, and our brains a chance to process all the data they received during the day. By failing to get enough sleep each night—and particularly when you’re on a diet and exercise program, your body gets confused and becomes less effective in "rebooting" for the next day.
Reason #5: You’re stressed-out
Stress can actually boost our appetites and store more fat around our tummies. That’s because our bodies produce more a particular type of hormone.
The key is to take a mental "time-out" throughout the day. While at work, take 5-10 minute breaks after working for a continuous 50 minutes. Get a therapeutic massage or take yoga classes (preferably after work). Kick back and enjoy the weekends, and stop taking your work home with you! Reducing stress in your life isn’t too difficult—it’s just a matter of doing it!
Reason #6: You’re expecting overnight results
Keep in mind that ultra-fast changes that occur in nature tend to be disastrous. This isn’t to say that you can’t or shouldn’t lose weight quickly. However, it will take some time for your body to adjust to your new dieting and exercise regimen.
If you’ve been a couch potato for years, then your body will likely undergo some changes when you start exercising and eating the right foods. That’s normal, but it will take time. Remember that Rome wasn’t built in a day!
If you’re failing to lose weight quickly enough, then these reasons may explain why. The key is to stick to your dieting and exercise program. If you do that, then the results will come in due time. Be steadfast and patient!
